Rhipidium

The rhipidium shows a cross with the extremities of the semi circular arms superposed on a rectangular framework whose corners alternate with these extremities, giving the ensemble the shape of a star. A seraph made in the au repousse technique is shown in the five medallions on each face, which mark the arms and the centre of the cross. The symbols of Mark and Luke the Evangelists appear in the central medallion, the biggest, to the right and left of the seraph, while in the middle, there is the symbol of Matthew the Evangelist and on the other side, John the Evangelist.
